Extremely Rare Original Verve 1939 Colour and hand applied Gold Gilt Heliogravure titled “St Gregory The Great”, 12th century, (1939). An illumination from a 12th century manuscript found at the Abbaye de Saint-Amand-en-Pevele, France, and currently housed in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Paris
From the publication called ‘Verve’, a deluxe art review that showcased original prints of leading artists at that time. Verve had a limited edition run (only 1200 published). This Heliogravure was published in Nos. 5-6 of Revue Verve, July-October 1939. Heliogravures in Verve were pulled from the presses of Mourlot Freres, Paris.
Very good condition with vibrant colour and retained gold gilt, minor age related outer edge ware to border not the image.
